Cable Torso Twist on Swiss Ball

Advanced Level

Want to exercise your obliques while maintaining perfect posture?  Slip a Swiss ball into the mix.  By kneeling on the ball you are guaranteed to maintain perfect form.  Failure to perform this exercise correctly often results in a large thump.

Contraindications:  None.

Starting Position:  Kneel on a Swiss ball.  Grab the handle with the "away" hand (RIGHT hand in the picture).  Then grip in "near" hand over the handle.  Align the handle with the center of the chest (sternum).

Movements:

  • While maintaining the hands in front of the sternum, rotate the torso away from the weight stack

  • Initiate the movement from the torso, not the arms.

  • Slowly allow the torso to rotate back to the starting position.

Tips: Good balance skills on the Swiss ball are required before attempting this advanced exercise.  Use considerably less weight than you would if you were standing on the floor.

Exercise Progressions

Trainer’s Notes:  Spot clients by stabilizing the ball for them until they develop the skills to perform this exercise solo.
